A small observatory for aquarium wood. Follow its buoyancy, water color, and the quiet changes in between.
Your observatory is waiting.
Register a piece of wood to begin. Every state in the aquarium follows your observations.
Explore the illustration, then add your own specimen. Preview changes are never saved.
Give a branch a name. Mark its first day in water. Let the observations tell the rest.
Little field notes. A visible passage of time.
No observations yet. Unrecorded days stay unknown.
Visual color observations only. Gaps mean no observation; values are never interpolated.
A little piece of wood, finally at home. Record an independent sink to create its certificate.
A small natural history, collected one specimen at a time.
Patience is part of the process. Watch each change separately.
Choose aquarium-suitable wood from a known source. Rinse and soak it in a clean container without soap. Record the start date, size and initial state; wood that sinks immediately is a valid starting point.
Check buoyancy without weights or ties before choosing “Naturally sunk”. Anchored wood is a separate state. A species name cannot predict the sinking date of an individual piece.
Use the same light, background and camera angle. Record brown water and white surface film independently. The 0–5 scale is a visual note, not a tannin concentration or water-safety test.
Every piece is different. A few useful things to know before you begin your own observations.
There is no guaranteed date. Density, drying and internal structure vary, even within the same wood type. Some pieces sink at once; others take longer or keep floating. This diary reports elapsed days and your observations, never a predicted deadline.
Wood can be less dense than water and can retain air. Soaking may change buoyancy. Test in a separate container without weights; a tied-down piece has not demonstrated independent sinking.
No. Sinking and brown water are different observations. Wood can sink while continuing to tint the water; clear water does not prove it will sink.
Fluval describes a common initial biofilm on new driftwood. Do not assume every growth is harmless. Investigate unusual odor, decay or distressed livestock, and check aquarium water conditions.
For Spider Wood and Manzanita, watch the branches and uneven floating. For Mopani and Malaysian wood, record the initial sinking state as well as water color. For hollow Cholla, note changes in trapped air. Choose Unknown if you cannot identify the wood; identity alone does not establish aquarium safety.
The start date is day 0. A certificate uses the first date recorded as naturally sunk without a weight. It certifies your observation, not a laboratory test. Editing that observation changes the result.
Export a JSON backup including photos, then restore it on the other device. Restore merges specimens by ID and asks before replacing a matching specimen. English and Korean share one local collection on this domain.
Notes and compressed photos stay in this browser on this device. No account or cloud sync. Clearing browser data can erase them. Export a backup regularly; both languages share the same collection on this domain.
The diary does not upload your notes or photos. Blogger and existing Google advertising may use cookies or process usage data under their policies. This site is a hobby observation tool, not an aquarium safety assessment.
Your backup includes every specimen, field note, and compressed photo. Store a copy somewhere safe.
A regular backup keeps your collection safe.
